New guidance on resident leave, family and social outings

We are pleased to announce that the NYS Department of Health has updated its guidance to allow for more flexibility with residents going off campus for general non-medical leave including family and social outings, etc.

To ensure we remain safety focused and compliant with guidelines, Andrus on Hudson requires the following of all residents that return to AOH after being out:

  • Residents who return to the facility from outside visits/leave must take a rapid test upon returning and be quarantined on transmission-based precautions until a negative Covid-19 PCR (lab test) test is received

  • Residents and families must limit close contact with others (maintaining physical

  • distancing of six feet or more), avoiding large gatherings and keeping gatherings as small as possible, and use of technology to engage with others remotely

  • Residents and families must wear facemasks to the extent possible

  • Residents and families must perform frequent hand hygiene.

  • Residents and families must avoid sharing of communal food or drinks

Per guidelines and AOH requirements the leaving resident and a family/friend shall attest in writing that:

  • They are aware of the risks involved in leaving the facility during the pandemic. If the resident is unable to attest in writing, the family/responsible party shall do so.

  • They shall follow masking, social distancing, and hand hygiene practices pursuant to CDC and DOH directives

  • They shall notify the facility if anyone with whom the resident socialized tests positive for COVID-19 or influenza or exhibits symptoms of COVID-19 and influenza within14 days of the resident's return to the facility

  • They shall communicate with the facility about a return date for the resident to the facility

  • They shall quarantine or minimize contact (or assist the resident to do so) to the extent safely possible prior to return to a nursing home.
